Lucille A. (Gero) LaMothe (age 89) of Uncasville, CT passed away at home on December 9, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Norwich, CT on July 4, 1934 to the late Delor and Alice (Prive) Gero. Lucille grew up in Taftville with her many brothers and one sister, and attended Sacred Heart School in Taftville and NFA.
She met her future husband, Albert, at the Norwich Roller Rink and they married in 1953 after his return from Korea. They lived in Presque Isle, ME, for a short time until Albert was released from the Air Force. They returned to live in Jewett City, later settling in Uncasville, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Before her marriage, Lucille worked at American Thread Company in Willimantic, taking the bus every day from Taftville. Later, she worked as the bookkeeper for the family service station businesses throughout Norwich, and also as the hostess at Herb’s Country Deli & Restaurant in Montville, CT
Lucille loved doing things for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never missed a special occasion or event, whether it was birthdays, school concerts, recitals or graduations. She could always be counted on to be in the audience.
Other than her family, Lucille loved nothing more than planning and throwing big parties. She loved having friends and family over for big cookouts, pool parties and her birthday (Independence Day). She loved Christmas, and always had elaborate Christmas Eve dinners, with everyone’s favorites that she spent days cooking. Lucille loved people and never met a stranger, whether it was the waitstaff at their favorite restaurant, the staff at Physical Therapy or the friends she made at the Hallmark Store, everyone adored her.
In addition to her husband of 70 years, Albert LaMothe, Lucille is survived by sons Wayne (Cheryl) of Uncasville, CT, and Brian (Fay) of Griswold, CT and daughter Sherri (Robert) Pelletier of Marlborough, CT, as well as grandchildren Amy (Brian) Richards of Bridgeville, PA, Carrie (Chris) Dentch of Pawcatuck, CT, Jaclyn (Geoff) Maker of Waterford, CT, Rebecca (Jeremy) Woodruff of Norwich, CT, Brianna Kramer of Woonsocket, RI, and Joshua Kramer of Carrabassett Valley, ME and three great-grandchildren: Evan, Grace, and Isabelle. She is also survived by a brother, Edmond Gero of Gardnerville, NV, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lucille was predeceased by her parents, as well as brothers Adelard, Arthur, Leon, Andrew and Victor Gero and sister Florence “Gerry” Morey.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hartford Healthcare Hospice for their excellent care of Lucille.
Calling hours / visitation for Lucille will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT. A mass of christian burial will occur Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Cathedral, 213 Broadway, Norwich, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Lung Association.
