Lucille L Slaga

Preston-Lucille L. Slaga, age 89, of Preston, passed away at Fairview Nursing Home in Groton on January 24, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1936 in Preston to the late Walter and Antonina (Miercejewski) Lebuis. She married her loving husband John Slaga on June 10, 1956 at Divine Providence Church in Norwich. He predeceased her in 2010.

Lucy was a 1954 graduate of Norwich Free Academy and worked as a Bus Coordinator/ Trainer for the Town of Preston. She very much enjoyed bus driving and all the kids, and won numerous awards for her exceptional bus driving skills. She enjoyed playing softball and was a semi- pro fastpitch player. Lucy also coached Preston girls softball. She was an avid UCONN women’s basketball fan. She also enjoyed her animals, especially her dogs, gardening and birdwatching. She was a member of Divine Providence Church in Norwich.

Lucy is survived by a daughter Theresa Thackston and her husband David of Preston, a son Mark Slaga and his wife Donna of Canterbury, a son Randy Slaga and his wife Lisa of Yantic. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a sister Genevieve Rozanski, and by brothers Marion, Victor, Stanley, and Caesar Lebuis.
