

LUKAS MARTHINUS PHEIFFER, 76, of Norwich, CT passed away peacefully at home Saturday, February 19th with his beloved wife of 21 years Laurie S. (MacLachlan) by his side. LUKIE, as he was affectionately known, was born in Lichtenburg, South Africa on June 19th, 1945 to the late Lukas and Gertruida (Myburgh) Pheiffer.
Lukas moved from South Africa to America in 2001. Lukas became a proud United States citizen in 2016, but he remained closely connected to his South African roots, returning often to visit friends and family and to spend time in Kruger National Park. In South Africa, Lukas worked for 32 years as a police officer. In America, he was employed for 14 years at Mohegan Sun Casino. Lukas will be remembered for his deep faith, for his enthusiasm for bread baking, and for his love of the outdoors and bird watching.
Besides his loving wife, those left to cherish his memory include his SIBLINGS, all of South Africa: Jakob “Spey” Pheiffer, Hercules “Nick” Pheiffer, Evert Pheiffer, and Gertruida “Elize” van Zyl. GRANDCHILDREN: Marthinus “Thinus” Kruger, Melissa Zandberg, Kaylee “Kay” Whitehead, Aedan and Logan Russo, Winter and Everest Maguire. CHILDREN: Barentia “Rentia” Zandberg of South Africa, Lizette (Stephen) Ridgard of South Africa, Nicolette “Nicky” Whitehead of South Africa, Lize-Mari (Adam) Russo of Old Lyme, CT, Chantel (Wyatt) Maguire of Foxboro, MA. Lukas was preceded in death by his former wife Christine Lombard, and brothers Gert and Jakobus “Kobus” Pheiffer.
A private visiting hour will be held at Church and Allen Funeral Service in Norwich, CT at 10am on February 25th, 2022 followed by a service at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich, CT at 11:15am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Norwich Food Pantry.
