Uncasville- Margaret Marie Semmelrock, 101, of Richard Brown Dr., passed away peacefully February 23, 2015 surrounded by her family. Margaret was mentally sharp and lived life to the fullest until her passing.
Margaret was born October 11, 1913 in Jewett City, the daughter of the late William and Marguerite (Masse) McKenna.
She was a 1931 graduate of Norwich Free Academy and a 1934 graduate of the Backus Hospital School of Nursing. She had worked as a Registered Nurse at Backus Hospital and at various nursing homes in the Norwich area.
She was married for more than 60 years to the late Joseph L. Semmelrock who passed away June 3, 2004.
Margaret was an educated, independent and adventurous woman, who never passed up an opportunity to travel. Each new destination provided an opportunity to add a rock to her 'memories' wall on Newton Street. Family was the most important part of Margaret’s life. She loved children, especially her own grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great granddaughters. She delighted in rides to view the Christmas lights. Her family travels often led to the beach, with special stops for clam cakes and chowder at George's Galley, Aunt Carrie's or Cap't Jack's. She enjoyed antiquing and going to flea markets and yard sales, where she would scout for good deals on pewter, Depression glass, or her beloved deer figurines.
She is survived by her two sons Alton (and Elodie) Semmelrock of Osprey, Fl and Arnauld (and Peggie) Semmelrock Sr of Livingston TX., grandchildren Mark, Earl, Luke, Arnauld Jr. and Todd Semmelrock, Donna Grant and MaryAnn Dostaler, and by her great grandchildren Matthew, Cody, Seth, Sothea, Tanner, Austin, Dylan, Derek, Taylor and Wolfgang Semmelrock, Shelby Colwell and Branden and Gabriel Grant, and by her great great granddaughters Alexa and Taelyn Colwell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers William and Earl McKenna and by her sisters Helen Parent and Jane and Rita McKenna.
A funeral service will be held at Church and Allen Funeral Home in Norwich on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 2pm. Calling hours will be held two hours prior from 12 pm to 2 pm. Burial at Maplewood Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
