

UNCASVILLE - Marion O. Mercer who was the oldest living member of the Mohegan tribe, died on November 22, 2017 at age 96. She was a descendant of Mary Story and a resident at Fort Hill, Uncasville CT. for the last 15 years. She died peacefully at home surrounded by family.
She was born on October 22, 1921 in New London Ct to Olga and George Douglas.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Jack R Mercer. They were married on June 5th 1943 in Malverne L.I. N.Y.
She is survived by her sister, Polly Boles of Merrick L.I.N.Y, four daughters; Georgia Scotella and her husband Frank of Corning CA, Jane Friday and her husband Bob of Uncasville, Nancy Mercer of Seattle WA, and Julie Wahtera and her husband Dave of Foster R.I.
She is survived by six grandchildren; Kimberly Yost of Groton, Erin Phillips of Groton Long Point, Christopher Friday of North Stonington, Annette Henderson of Chico CA, Michael Scotella of Corning CA, Angela Burdette of Norwich,
As well as by nine great grandchildren; Samantha Hill of Wallingford, Cassandra Hill of Ottawa Canada, Isabella Henderson of Chico CA, Hannah Phillips of Groton Long Point, and Liam Phillips of Groton Long Point., Jack Yost of Groton, Rowan Henderson of Chico CA, Alex Friday of North Stonington, and Sophia Friday of North Stonington.
She worked tirelessly and passionately for the Women’s Republican Club in Manchester CT and Collier county FL. She obtained a Real Estate license and was elected Justice of Peace. She was a prolific crocheter of afghan’s for family and friends. In her early years she was a foster parent to three infants.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be missed dearly by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 29th from 4pm – 7pm at the Gathering Room at Fort Hill in Uncasville. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 30th at 10am at the Mohegan Congregational Church, 27 Church Ln., Uncasville with a walking procession to the Fort Shantok Burial Ground immediately following for traditional burial rites.
