Michelle L. Watson

October 18, 1969 – August 26, 2026

Michelle Reck Watson, 56, of Norwich, passed away on August 26, 2026, following a brief and unexpected illness. Born in Norwich on October 18, 1969, Michelle grew up in Franklin and was the beloved daughter of Carol Reck and the late Ronald Reck.

Michelle leaves behind her mother, Carol Reck of Norwich; her husband, Wayne Watson; her brother, Jeff Reck and his wife Lisa, of Lisbon; and her beloved nephews, Anthony, Andrew, Jacob, and Jeffrey, who knew and loved her as “Auntie.” She was predeceased by her grandparents, Frank and Sophie Reck and Andrew and Gladys Smith.

She also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Catherine Fish and late husband Edward Fish of Preston and her father-in-law, Henry Watson of Preston. She leaves behind Catrina and Paul Ritchie of Oakdale and their children, Hannah and Jeremy; Amber Thomas of North Stonington and her children, Noah, Elias, and Emmit; Coral Fish of Preston and Ashley Watson of Texas; her cherished dogs, Cora and Paulo; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

To know Michelle was to know kindness. She was one of the sweetest, most genuine people you could ever meet, and she had an extraordinary ability to talk to absolutely anyone about absolutely anything. Michelle loved to talk, loved to tell stories, and rarely seemed to meet a stranger. Whether you had known her for decades or had just met her, she had a way of making you feel like an old friend.

Michelle also did absolutely nothing in a hurry. She was famously late to nearly everything, including her own wedding. Family dinners, holidays, cookouts, gatherings...everyone knew Michelle would get there when she got there. She moved through life on her own time and on her own terms. She took her time, did things with incredible care and perfection, and was never going to let a clock rush her.

And, of course, anyone who knew Michelle knew the eye roll. She could be sweet as could be, but she was also stubborn, and sometimes one look from Michelle said everything that needed to be said.

Michelle loved dogs, motorcycles, traveling, spending time with friends, and simply sitting around talking. Her love for dogs went far beyond Cora and Paulo. Michelle had an especially soft spot for shelter dogs and seemed determined to help every one of them find a loving home. Much like her thrift-store finds, her friends could often count on Michelle filling their phones with posts about dogs in need of adoption, always hoping the right person might see one and give that dog the home it deserved.

She especially loved thrift shopping and the thrill of finding a great deal. She was always on the hunt for her next treasure—sometimes to keep and sometimes to resell. Her friends could regularly open their phones to find countless posts and links Michelle had shared about local thrift stores, sales, or deals she thought someone simply had to see. A thrift-store adventure with Michelle was never just a quick shopping trip, and her mother, Carol, was often lovingly recruited to come along.

Michelle and her mother shared an especially close relationship. She adored her mom, even if Carol occasionally received one of those famous eye rolls when she forgot to put in her hearing aids. Michelle was equally devoted to her father and remained deeply connected to her family throughout her life.

One of Michelle's most cherished roles was being Auntie. Her nephews held an incredibly special place in her heart. Michelle loved them as fiercely as if they were her own. Auntie was there for games, races, holidays, family picnics, dinners, celebrations, and countless ordinary moments that became special simply because she was there. Every holiday included Michelle, even if everyone knew better than to expect her to arrive on time. Her nephews weren't just part of her life, they were a tremendous part of her heart.

Throughout her life, Michelle worked hard but was never afraid to take a new path. She spent many years working at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casino and also worked at the Polish Club in Montville. More recently, she returned to school and proudly graduated from Goodwin University after studying Dental Hygiene. She was working as a Dental Hygiene Assistant while continuing to work occasional weekends at the Polish Club.

The Polish Club was much more than a job to Michelle. It was her second home and the people there were her second family, a close-knit group of friends she treasured deeply.

Perhaps more than anything, Michelle will be remembered for the way she showed up for people. She helped anyone and everyone she could. She was the friend you could count on, the person who would listen, the person who would talk with you for hours, and the person who genuinely cared about what was happening in your life. Her circle was large because her heart was large. Michelle collected friendships much the same way she collected treasures on her thrift-store adventures, everywhere she went, she seemed to find another person worth keeping.

Michelle's life ended far sooner than anyone who loved her could have imagined or was prepared for. There should have been more stories, more thrift-store adventures, more holidays, more dinners, more eye rolls, more conversations and yes, many more occasions spent waiting for Michelle to finally arrive.

While those who loved her were nowhere near ready to say goodbye, there is comfort in knowing that Michelle has been called home and reunited with her father, whom she loved and missed dearly.

Calling hours will be held Friday, September 4th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Church & Allen Funeral Home in Norwich. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 5th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Baltic, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Polish Club in Montville. Michelle will be cremated, and burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Michelle's memory to the American Heart Association or an animal shelter of your choosing.
