Olympia "Lee" Hancin
November 18, 1925 – January 6, 2021
Olympia “Lee” Hancin, age 95 formerly of Norwich Connecticut passed away January 6, 2021.
Lee was the daughter of Louis and Sophie Stavrou who both predeceased her. Lee had three sisters and one Brother Steven Stavrou of Norwich who has predeceased her, Helen John of Norwich and Victoria Stavrou of Norwich, who both predeceased her. Lee’s younger sister Margaret Post now resides in Jupiter, Florida.
Lee was married on May 1, 1949 to Army Veteran Michael Joseph Hancin of Norwich who predeceased her in 1954. Shortly after marriage Lee contracted “Polio” afflicting her right arm which left her with very limited mobility. Together they had two children, a son Dennis Louis Hancin daughter in law Linda Hancin of Norwich and daughter Michelle “Hancin” Hollis, Son in Law Michael Alan Hollis of Griswold. Lee was a very loving and devoted Mother to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family.
Lee had six grandchildren, Dennis Mario Hancin wife Diana Hancin, Tonya lee McDermott husband Michael McDermott, Michael Joseph Hancin wife Irene Hancin, Cheryl Preston husband Jonathan Preston, Tyffani Hollis Gordon husband Glenn Gordon, and Michael David Hollis wife Kathryn Hollis.
Lee also had thirteen great grandchildren, Wyatt and Alyson Gordon, Tyler and Liam Hollis, Julia and Katy Hancin, Michael and Hannah McDermott, Michael, Ryan and Ayden Hancin, Madison and Kennedy Preston.
Lee also had numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Lee in years past was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of Norwich helping the annual Greek Festival serving, baking Greek desserts and whatever she could do to help. She also lent a hand to her parents and Sister’s shop” Stavrou Variety Store formally of Norwich, baking and frosting cakes to serve, stocking and cleaning shelves or whatever was needed. She also loved to babysit for her grandchildren. She loved music and dancing especially Greek dancing. She also loved the beach and would schedule a yearly vacation in Westerly RI. Since Lee never learned to drive she loved walking everywhere. She also loved to keep fit and exercise daily.
Our Mom will be greatly missed!!!!!!

My dear sweet Aunt Lee. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing. She was always so kind, and her love unconditional. Though I am unable to physically be there, my heart is with Shelly and Dennis, and the rest of the family. May she Rest In Peace. Your niece, Sophia 🌹
