Hartford-Randall L. “Randy” Staggs, 67, of Norwich, Ct passed peacefully into eternal life September 8, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Clanton, AL, April 15, 1949, son of the late William J and Elsie (Nichols) Staggs.
He was a graduate of Jemison High School, Jemison, AL, class of “68”.
In 1969, he was inducted into the US Army, stationed on the DMZ in South Korea as part of the artillery firing directional center with the rank of Sargent. On his 2nd enlistment in 1976, he was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1979.
He was employed as a machinist at Don Casters/Turbo Products in Ivoryton from 1979-2002. In 2002-2010 he worked at Triumph Activation Systems in East Lyme, CT.
Randy used his football experience from high school to coach, along with his brother Richard, in the Norwich Youth Football League from 1984-1989. As a coach he felt it was his job not only to teach the game but to try to guide the players to do their best at all they did and to have respect for others and themselves. It gave him great pride to talk to them in later years and have them relate how much they valued his friendship.
He dedicated his life to spending time with his many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews that he cherished and adored unconditionally. A loving and caring uncle to all with a heart of gold. We have a guardian angel watching over us.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by 2 brothers, John Staggs and Douglas Staggs, 2 sister in laws, Virginia (Horton) Staggs, and Janet (Politowicz) Staggs.
