

Norwich- Richard R. Allard Sr., age 85, passed away on September 19, 2017 at his home in Norwich. He was born on November 17, 1931 in Southbridge, MA to the late Rene and Florence (Bouchard) Allard. He married his loving wife Virginia (White) Allard on October 4, 1957. She predeceased him.
Richard was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He retired from Electric Boat as a supervisor where he went on to work another 12 years at Foxwoods. He was the former Commander at the VFW in Taftville and a member of the American Legion in Taftville.
He is survived by a son Richard R. Allard Jr. of Norwich, stepchildren James Applegarth of Uncasville, Carol Jurovaty of Norwich, and Patricia Kelly and her husband Patrick of Voluntown as well as Step Daughter in law, Marie Jurovaty of Lebanon. He also leaves behind a brother Raymond Allard and his wife Sara, a brother Norman Allard and his wife Priscilla, a brother Albert Allard and his wife Joan, a sister Nancy Murtha, 12 grandchildren including Daniel Allard and Nicole Allard, and one great granddaughter Taylor Petrowski. He is predeceased by a stepson Steve Jurovaty and a brother Robert Allard.
Family and friends may visit Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich on Monday from 5-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church, 11 Baltic Road, Norwich on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bowell Ave Norwich. Refreshments will be held after the funeral at Poppy and Rye in Taftville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Richard’s honor to the American Cancer Society at www.donate.cancer.org.
