Richard “Dick” William Jean, age 83 years old, passed away April 1st, 2021 peacefully in his sleep due to complications from Alzheimer’s related dementia. He was born July 29, 1937 in New London, CT to Irving and Mary Jean. He married the love of his life Martha Jean in August of 1976 who preceded him in death in 2014.
Richard Jean served in the US Navy from December of 1955 to April of 1976; his duty stations included Naval Submarine School New London CT, USS Hardhead (SS 365) and USS Cobbler (SS 344). He worked for RCA Government Services following his retirement from the Navy before working for FTSCLANT DET NLON prior to his retirement from civil service in 2002.
Richard enjoyed fishing off his boat the Blue Fin and it’s replacement the Restless, traveling, spending time with his family, his various dogs, going to the casino as well as watching the Boston Red Sox, UConn Women Huskies and the PatrioIn addition to his beloved wife, Richard was predeceased by his father Irving Jean, mother Mary Jean, step-mother Ethel Jean, Sister-in-law Barbara Jean, Nephew Richard Jean and step-grandson Herbert D Young.
Richard is survived by his older brother Robert Jean of Uncasville, his cousin Ozzie Jean, his nephew Robert Jean Jr and his wife Lynda of Oakdale, his step-nephew Billy Johnson of Florida and his great-nephew Brandon Jean of Lebanon. He is also survived by his four step-daughters, Sheila O'Lone of Mystic, Susan Rulli of Portsmouth, NH, Sandra Reed of Canyonville, OR., and Sharon Wood of New London. He also leaves behind four step-grandchildren, Carl Rulli of Hampton, NH, Tina Milhomme of Silverdale, WA., Janet Morse of Uncasville, and Tanya Bruck of Colchester as well as several step-great-grandchildren in CT, WA and NH. Visitation will be held at Church and Allen Funeral Home 136 Sachem Street, Norwich CT from 7-9 PM on April 8th, his funeral will be on the 9th of April at 10 AM at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Norwich.
