

Bob was born on January 14, 1938, in Oakdale, CT the son of Minnie and Alex Shutsky. He was proud of his family’s farming roots and respected and appreciated farmers, and the preservation of farmland throughout his life.
Bob attended Norwich Free Academy and was the first family member to attend college, graduating from UCONN. He was a CPA and had a long fulfilling career working for several companies including Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. a prominent international accounting firm, becoming one of the “Big Eight” accounting firms merging to become KPMG. In addition, he worked for 3D Bed and Bath, Railroad Salvage and Ed Lohr & Associates.
Bob was diagnosed with diabetes as a young teenager and spent his life successfully managing his disease after a stay a Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston. The guidance he received from the Joslin Diabetes Center shaped the way he lived and cared for his health for the rest of his life.
Bob was a lifetime member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Institute of Management Accountants. For the last several years he was cared for by his live-in caregiver Mary McCallum who kept him healthy and happy.
Bob is survived by his son Robert Shutsky Jr of Atlanta, Melissa Shutsky of Bozrah, five grandchildren, Paige, Ashley and Casy Leaycraft, and Keegan and Calista Wittke as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Donna, his daughter Sherrie, and sisters Ida Shutsky and Fay Robinson, as well as his brother Jack Shutsky.
Calling hours will be held Friday, March, 27, 2026, at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave, in Norwich from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Home Service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Labenski Funeral Home at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich.
