Haverhill, MA – Roberta Audrey (Hoy) Banta, 99, formerly of Uncasville, CT, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 at Hannah Dustin Healthcare in Haverhill, MA.

She was born on April 1, 1918 in Quaker Hill, CT to the late Benjamin and Carrie (Bigelow) Hoy. She married her beloved husband Elford Banta on October 12, 1940 who predeceased her in 2000.

Roberta was an active congregant of the Quaker Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed all aspects of her faith walk there, participating in the annual fairs donating her crocheting and baked goods. After high school she began working at Connecticut College as a waitress for the students and then went to the Mohegan Hotel working for 20 years, retiring from the former Sheraton Inn in Norwich, CT. Her greatest joy however, was her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Freeman and her husband Raymond of East Stroudsburg, PA and Karen Dermody and her husband Kevin of Danville, NH. She is also survived by grandchildren Heather Hutchens, Meredith Greene, Holly Belau, Schlonge Farrow and Michael Dermody and great grandchildren, Benjamin, Samuel & David Hutchens, Sydney Greene, Zoe Belau, Noah Dermody and Anna Farrow. Besides her husband Elford, she was also predeceased by her brothers; Malcolm and Russell Hoy, and sisters; Marvis Hoy, Thelma Oates and Natalie Hill.

Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am at the Quaker Hill Baptist Church, 144 Old Norwich Rd., Quaker Hill, CT with the Funeral Service commencing at 11. Burial will immediately follow at Jordan Cemetery, 240 Boston Post Rd., Waterford, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory to the Quaker Hill Baptist Church, 144 Old Norwich Rd., Quaker Hill, CT 06375.

I am sorry for your loss Banta family. I have fond memories of Aunt Roberta and Uncle "Snooky". My mother, Diane use to take us as children to visit. My grandmother Pauline Michaud was related to Uncle Snooki. I believe it was her Uncle. Again, sorry for your loss. Prayers for you all.
