Ronald (Ron) D. LaBonte, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. Ron was born on October 24, 1949, son of the late Lucille Hadam and Bill Karns. Ron is survived by his life partner of 35 years, David Pascua.
Ron was a life-long resident of Norwich, and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1967. He attended Eastern Connecticut State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
Ron was employed by the State of CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services for 32 years. Most of his state service was spent at Norwich Hospital where he worked direct care and in the Time Office. Eventually, his strong interest in computer technology led him to transfer to Capitol Region Mental Health Center and the Office of the Commissioner where he provided technical support, computer programming and quality assurance and improvement. After his retirement, he was employed at UCFS as Supervisor of the Mentoring Program and for the past 5 years, has worked at Reliance Health, Inc. as Unit Director of the TLC Cottage for homeless men with co-occurring disabilities.
Ron’s lifelong dream of travelling to England where the “British Invasion” began was realized in 2016. He participated in The International Beatle Week Festival in Liverpool, which allowed him to explore the childhood homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. In addition, he visited The Cavern Club, Strawberry Fields, Apple Studios, and crossed “Abbey Road”. The tour allowed him to further immerse himself into a significant amount of Beatles history and trivia throughout London, Manchester, and Henley.
Ron was unafraid to live life exploring his interests and encouraged others to do the same. He lived his life out loud with no fear of the consequences. His generous soul touched many lives. The greatest imprint he has left on mankind was his innate ability to inspire and lead all that knew him into their own self-discovery, to love themselves and to be the best that they could be. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, but his spirit will remain with us all.
Ron is survived by his brothers, Craig LaBonte of Jewett City, CT; William LaBonte of Brownsville, TX; and a step-sister, Karen Karns of CT; his nieces Pat, Linda, Jennifer, Jessica; his nephews William Jr., and Ted; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Ron was predeceased by his brother, Gary LaBonte; his sister, Nancy Clifford; and his nephew, Clint LaBonte.
Ron will be sadly missed by his most loved and trusted companions, Mya and Chad.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich, CT.
