

She was born in Cap St. Ignace, Quebec, Canada. Rose was the thirteenth of fourteen children born to Imelda Rousseau Bernier and Patrick Bernier. Her family immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Plainfield, CT. On Nov. 24th, 1948 she married Herman A. Mainville at St. John’s Church, Plainfield, who died on March 16th, 1985. They resided in Norwich, CT. First, making their home on Grove St. Then, moved to 92 West Town St., where Rose lived for 60 years. Together they nurtured a family: a daughter, Marlene R. Peer of Norwich and a son, John N. Mainville of Baltic. Being blessed with many of God’s graces, she is also survived by her son-in-law, David G. Peer, daughter-in-law, Dale Pitcher Mainville, her five beautiful grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Jonnelle Konow, husband Carson of Canterbury, CT their daughter Bria and son Luke; Jessica Peer and Gregory King of Fitchburg, MA their daughter Zoe; Shaena Malone, husband Michael of Brooklyn, CT their sons Anthony and Vincent, daughter Talia; Kendal Raymond husband Ronald of Franklin, CT their son Eli; and David-John Peer of Manchester, NH along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers- Irene Bernier, Rudolph Bernier, Antonio Bernier, Valere Bernier, Gilberte Walsh, Rebecca Johnson, Armand Bernier, Gracia Howarth, Fernand Bernier, Gerard Bernier, Paul Bernier, John Bernier and an infant brother.
Rose will be remembered for a heart always ready to give, as a devoted wife, a loving mother, an adoring grandmother and great grandmother, a special aunt, friend and an animal lover, especially of cats.
Visitation will be held at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave in Norwich on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 9 am to 10 am and will proceed to an 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church in Norwichtown at 11 am. Burial in St. John’s Cemetery, Plainfield will be held on Tuesday at 2:15 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Sacred Heart Church in Norwichtown or to the Center for Hospice Care in Norwich.
