OBITUARY

Stephen Keith

Stephen George Keith, 84, of Preston, Connecticut, passed away on August 26, 2019 in Norwich, Connecticut. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on September 1, 2019 at the Preston City Congregational Church in Preston. A reception will follow the service in the church rectory. Stephen Keith was born in Ware, Massachusetts to Harry and Laura Keith on February 7, 1935. He graduated from Monson Academy and Clark University. He married Joan Montgomery on April 6, 1963 at Park Congregational Church in Norwich, Connecticut. He worked at Eldridge Hardware for 25 years and at the Mystic Seaport in his retirement as a historical interpreter. He was involved in DeMolay in his youth, as a moderator with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Norwich, Keith Family genealogy, coaching youth sports, gardening, bird watching, and interested in the history of the Civil War and railroads in the United States. Stephen was also an avid reader and amazed his grandchildren with his video game prowess. Stephen always put his family first and had very close and loyal friends. He took his family on long road trips to Canada for family vacations and numerous jaunts to Quabbin Reservoir in Massachusetts where he grew up for picnics and visiting friends and family. “Grampy” or “Dad” spent many hours babysitting and playing with his adoring grandchildren. Stephen is survived by his wife Joan, son Greg and his wife Jill, daughter Susan and boyfriend Anthony, and grandchildren Tyler, Carsen, and Evan. Memorials may be donated to the Make a Wish Foundation in memory of his granddaughter, Madisen. The family of Stephen Keith wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Backus Hospital and Davis Place.
