Virginia "Ginny" Joan Mabesoone

Virginia “Ginny” Joan Mabesoone passed away peacefully, Thursday January 12th, surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Agnes Mabesoone, her sister-in-law, Sally Mabesoone and her nephew John David Mabesoone. Ginny graduated from Albany Medical Center, Albany, N.Y and first worked at W.W, Backus Hospital as a registered staff nurse. She was the Director of Oncology Services when she retired in 2013 after 42 years at Backus Hospital.

She is survived by three sisters Barbara Libby (David) of Hedgesville, W. VA, Jaye Mabesoone (Steve) of Willington, CT and Eileen Pike (Glen) of Chesterfield County, VA, and one brother, Dan Mabesoone, Sun City, Fla. She is also survived by 4 nieces and 1 nephew.

She will be missed by her closest friends, Betty Garvey, Mary Guyla, Ray Geissler and Fran Hutchins. She will be especially missed by her beloved shih tzu’s Maggie and Casey who have already found a loving home and have been adopted by Joann Guyla.

The family would like to thank everyone who has been involved in Ginny’s care over the years, especially Dr. Dennis Slater, the team at Eastern Connecticut Hematology and Oncology and all the staff at Backus Hospital.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 17th from 5PM to 8PM at Church and Allen Funeral Service, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich, CT. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
