Vito was born to Nicola and Philomena (Piacenza) Pappagallo on March 22, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY. On Sept. 8, 1956, Vito married the love of his life, the late Patricia (Lee) Pappagallo; at Sacred Heart Church in Norwich, CT., Patricia predeceased Vito on Nov. 4, 2014.
Vito earned his Master’s Degree in Education and began his teaching career at Fields Memorial School in Bozrah, CT. He retired after many years of teaching at Pleasant Valley School in Groton, CT.
Vito was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Vito spent many years providing for, caring for, and raising his family.
Upon retirement, Vito and Patti chose to live their winter months in sunny Florida. They would return each May and lavish their time upon their children, grand and great children. Their life had evolved to the greatest joy for them - family time. The happiest Pappagallo event was on Sundays, when the children, grand, and great grandchildren, would all gather at their home for a busy, loud, happy, laughter and food filled Italian family meal. Vito loved reliving the stories with his children of their youth.
He would sit at the dining room table engaging and laughing at the memory of whatever story we were telling - sometimes dropping his jaw, as he was hearing a story for the first time. His five children always kept things interesting for Vito, but he loved every moment of it. He will always be remembered as a true family man.
Vito is survived by his children, Peter Pappagallo of Norwich, Susan Pappagallo-Kirby (Kevin) of Franklin, Mark Pappagallo (Brenda) of Griswold, Andy Pappagallo of Griswold, and Marylee Pappagallo-Hastings of Griswold.: grandchildren Nicholas and Anthony Pappagalo and Njcole Kirby, great-grandchildren Brayden and Robbi-Lee Pappagallo. Also many nieces and nephews, and his best buddy Ernie Riedel in Florida. Vito was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, parents Nicola and Philomena, brothers Pasquale and Michael, and sister Theodora.
