
He was born in Willimantic, CT on Dec. 5, 1941 to the late George A. Gordon Sr. from Storrs, CT and Mary Rose Irene (Cyr) Gordon from Willimantic, CT. After completing school, he enlisted in the US Navy Submarine Service where he served honorably until his retirement. Thereafter he worked for Groton Utilities in the Water Filtration Department as a maintenance worker until his retirement in 2007.
On Dec. 21, 1968 Walter married his beloved wife Rose M. (Fox) in Wheeling, WV and they started their family. Walter was a member of the Fleet Reserve, VFW, Groton Lodge of Elks, and volunteered at the Seaport. He also enjoyed the Connecticut Sun ladies basketball team and was a season ticketholder. He was a UCONN Huskies fan and enjoyed fishing, farming, and gardening. Everything Walt pursued, he accomplished in grand fashion. “Pop-pop” as he was known by his grandchildren, will be greatly missed by all.
Walter is survived by his wife Rose, son; Walter D. Gordon II and wife Annette of Oakdale, daughters; Mary A. Dossat and husband Randy of Oakdale, and Debra J. Pendleton of New London, grandchildren; Samantha, Jennifer and Natalie Pendleton, Madelyn Long, Alyson and Andrew Dossat, and Paige Gordon. He was predeceased by his brother; George A. Gordon Jr.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6pm-8pm at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville, CT. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 10am immediately followed by burial with military honors at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich, CT.
