He was born in Racine, Wisconsin on August 9, 1929. He was the son of John E. and Alma C. (Sorensen) Hansen. He married Ivy F. (Sheen) Hansen on April 14, 1951 and they were married for 55 years until her death in 2006.
Bill served in the United States Navy for twenty-one years and was an electronics technician in navigations on the U.S. Nautilus for its journey under the North Pole in 1958. He worked for Eastern CT Cable as a technician and installer until his retirement at the age of 71 years. His love of electronics and computers continued throughout his life and kept him connected with others in recent years.
Bill was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1971. He served as an elder in the Norwich English Congregation and loved talking with others about Bible truths and teaching in the congregation. Computers were his hobby but his faith was his life.
He is survived by his two daughters, Arleen Ciccone and her husband, Steven, of Griswold and Karen Hansen of Griswold, his three grandsons, Micah Messer and his wife, Brianne, of Oakdale, Joshua Ciccone and his wife, Tammy, of Westchester County, NY and Caleb Ciccone and his wife, Jessica, of Griswold and his four great-grandchildren, Carissa and Jayden Ciccone and Crystal and Ashlynn Messer.
A memorial talk will be given at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 282 Route 165, Preston, CT at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012. Friends can visit with the family prior to the service between 5-7 p.m.
