Scotland- William John Newman, 74, of Scotland, CT, passed away October 25, 2018 at Brookdale Buckingham in Glastonbury. Bill was born July 31, 1944 in Hartford, the son of the late William Earl and Alice (Bowers) Newman. He married the late Leslie (Odess) Newman November 28, 1992 in Scotland CT. She passed away June 14, 2014. Bill served in the United States Airforce and was a Vietnam Veteran. A beloved family man with an infectious smile, Bill loved life and believed in living every day to its fullest. He was known as “Scarecrow Man” and was a member of the Scotland Historical Society. A self -taught musician, Bill had an infinite love of music and singing. Of his many hobbies and interests, traveling, the outdoors and tinkering in his garage were among his favorites. Bill was very involved with Alcoholics Anonymous, through which he began his sobriety in 1985. Bill’s family would like to thank the caring and committed staff at Brookdale Buckingham in Glastonbury and VITAS Hospice for their compassionate care. Bill is survived by his step daughter Lisa Fuller and husband Roger of Bozrah, step son John Campbell and wife Bevin of Montrose, CO, daughters Shannon Newman and husband Daniel LaClair of Ferrisburgh, VT, Heather Regan and husband Shawn of North Port, FL, by his brother Andy Newman and wife Colleen of Greencastle, PA and by his grandchildren Rachel, Silas, John and Raven Duke, Ashley and Kelsey Fuller, Arlo and Stella Campbell, great grandson Erik Preston, and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother Earl Newman, sisters Shirley Barrett, Andrea Hassett and Fran Bradley. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St. Norwich, at 11 am. Burial will be private for Bill’s family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills MA 02481. The Church and Allen Funeral Home, is entrusted with arrangements.
