

He was born in Norwich, CT on April 17, 1929 to the late Everett and Minnie (Swan) Benjamin. In 1958 he married his beloved wife, Helen (Polubiatko) who predeceased him. Together they made their life and their family in Preston becoming an integral part of the fabric of the town.
“Winnie” worked in the Aspinook Mills for several years and was employed by the New London County Soil Conservation District, USDA, for over 30 years where he also served as a member of the Board of Supervisors and received many outstanding awards over the past 60 years. In the 60’s he also worked winters for the former Lehigh Oil Co. In 1981 he began the W.W. Benjamin Co., still in operation today. He also operated a tree farm on Branch Hill receiving Tree Farmer of the Year Award in 1983. Additionally, he was the president of the Preston City Cemetery Assoc. where he dedicated much of his time.
He was a member of the Preston City Congregational Church for over 80 years serving as trustee and deacon for many of them.
He is survived by his son; Wayne Benjamin, daughters; Laura Benzinger and Linda Pershaec, one sister; Hester Stimac, one grandchild; Alexis Wainwright and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Winnie was also predeceased by his brothers; Jerrerd, Morgan, Russell, and Richard, and his sisters Carrie and Jennie.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Oct 12th at 10am at Preston City Congregational Church, 321 RT 164, Preston, CT with burial immediately following at Preston City Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
