Alan L. Golden, 66, of Norwich, NY passed away on Monday February 23, 2015 at his home. Alan was born on March 23, 1948 in Norwich to the late Sherwood and Floretta Burdick Golden. A Norwich resident for the majority of his life, Alan served his country from 1968 to 1969. In 1983 he started his life-long career with the New York State Department of Corrections, wherein he worked until his retirement in2001, his last stint of which was in Camp Georgetown. To best describe Alan one could say he was a typical Golden with a great sense of humor. He loved doing things with his family like none other especially his grandchildren. Alan loved visiting with almost anybody, but those visits always had to be scheduled around his coffee time with friends. He found his passion in the outdoors, as an avid outdoorsman Alan spent much time hunting and fishing and loved spending time at his lake house at Bradley Brook. Alan is survived by his wife of 35 years Shirley Golden, his daughters; Melissa Kreiner of Earlville, Hope (Shawn) Lambrecht of Oneonta, Rustina (Jody) Ruf of Gloversville, and Alana Golden of Norwich and his faithful dog Nitro. He is also survived by his grandchildren Morgan Kreiner, Chase Kreiner, Katrina Skinner, Trey Lambrecht, Skye Lambrecht, Ariel Ruf,Jody Ruf Jr., Cory Miller, and Alex Helpling, his brothers Sonny (Jessie) Golden and Donnie (Dawn) Golden, and his sister-in-law Donna Cuyle, and his brother and sister in-laws Bob and Mary Barnes of Ithaca, Linn Monday of Norwich, and Tom and Annette Monday also of Norwich. Alan is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Edward, William, and Frank, his Sister-In_Laws Velma Diamond and Patricia Monday and his dog Rocky. A funeral Service for Alan will be held on Thursday February 26, 2015 at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, Norwich NY at 2pm with Rev David Spiegel pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich officiating. Friends may come to call from 12 pm noon until the time of the services. I am so sorry for your loss. I was blessed to know Uncle AL and his family thru their afternoon coffee breaks in Norwich. He was a genuine individual who had a heart of gold. Uncle AL and his family brought much laughter, love, and smiles to my afternoons at work. I was very fortunate he and his family opened their hearts to me. My love and prayers go out to Aunt Shirley, Grandpa and the rest of the Golden family.

Shirley - it was an honor working with Alan all the years he and I were dog control officers for our respective municipalities. You know, Alan came across at first as being very GRUFF and TOUGH. It took a good many years - too many, perhaps - to realize what a good friend he had become while doing a business (taking care of dogs) which could be very stressful and not public friendly. Alan set a good example for me as to how to relate to people, to treat them well, and to care for the animals. BUT I'll never forget when the pound first opened across the street from you! His sweetness showed through, didn't it? The barking and all the other inconveniences! In our later years together, it was a joy to consider him a good friend. Whenever we saw each other, we just picked up from where we left off.
I grieve for your loss. One of my favorite verses is Matthew 11:28 where Jesus said, "come unto Me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." I trust His rest will be your comfort today.
Praying for you all.

Shirley and family

So very sorry to hear of
Alan's passing.
We were so glad we met you Shirley, and to see Alan when we were on the East Coast a number of years ago.
Alan was special to me. His mom said I could name him but he had to have the middle name Lorenzo. Alan asked me one time why I spelled his name Alan - because I loved Alan Ladd!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Love,
Aunt DeeDee and Uncle Art
