Alice was born April 12, 1937 in Norwich the daughter of the late Olin and Ruth (Graves) Angle. She had made her home in the Oxford and Preston area her entire life and was a 1955 graduate of the Oxford Academy Central School.
After graduation she took a job behind the food counter in the M.H. Fishman store in Norwich. In October 1956 she started her 38 year career with Norwich Mills which later became Champion Products. When the plant closed in 1994 Alice embarked on her final career. She took classes at DCMO BOCES and became a home health care giver. She really found herself in this capacity as she had a gift for making the final days, weeks, months and some cases years of her client’s life much easier. Many families will agree that due to her loving care of those clients it actually extended their lives. Her clients became her friends and they also became hers due to her loving and compassionate care. Some family members of her very first client as a home health aide were honored to call Alice a member of their extended family and she spent many holidays and family gatherings with them.
Alice was a member of the Preston Auxiliary and held every office except vice president. She especially enjoyed the Tuesday evening craft sessions.
Alice is survived by many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews. Several cousins also survive.
Alice was predeceased by her parents Olin and Ruth Angle, her step-mother Lucy Washburn, sisters Gertrude Robbins and Mable Nichols, brother Paul Angle, step-brother Clifford Washburn, nephew Gary Nichols, nieces Karen Shaw and Ruth Angle. Also two very special people Harry and Lily Nelson.
Alice’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents at the Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for the care given to her during her stay. Also a thank you to her neighbors who watched over her and to the people at the Cut Above Hair Salon, the Norwich Diner and Ontario Restaurant for their friendship.
A Memorial Service for Alice will be held on Monday, December 31, at 11 am from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at a later date in the J.D. Lewis Cemetery of Preston
