Arietta was born on July 19, 1936 in Manhattan, NY the daughter of Herman and Anna VonHassel. At a very young age, she, along with her family, moved to the country life in Otselic, where she attended and graduated from South Otselic Central School in 1953.
After high school Arietta moved to Norwich where she worked as a payroll clerk for Victory Markets. Not long after her moving to Norwich, she met the love of her life, Oswald Cyril Myers. Arietta and “Ossie” were married on October 26, 1957 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Norwich.
In the early years, Arietta and Ossie made their home in Preston, NY. In 1966, they moved to their current home of over 50 years, the exact site of Arietta’s childhood home. There Arietta was able to enjoy the country life and be a devoted and loving wife and mother. As her children continued to be born, Arietta chose to stay home to raise and care for her growing family. While Arietta loved the country life and taking care of her home she was also an avid reader, loved history, gardening and socializing with her many friends and family. Arietta and her husband Ossie have been proud and active members of the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary in South Otselic, NY. Arietta was known for her sense of humor, infectious laugh and her welcoming demeanor to everyone whom she met.
Arietta is survived by her husband, Ossie, her children John (Karlyn) Myers of Otselic, NY, Oswald (April) Myers, Jr. of Chittenango, NY, Anna (Douglas) Brown of No. Pharsalia, NY, Michele (Randy) Reakes of Otselic, NY and Susan (Christopher) Lordon of New Woodstock, NY. Also surviving is her brother Herman VonHassel of Otselic, NY: her grandchildren Oswald (Rebecca) Myers III, Nicholas Myers, Elizabeth Brown, Benjamin Brown, Riley Lordon, Ashley Lordon, James Lordon, Jessica (Josh) Buell, Michelle (Anthony) Corona and great grandchildren Elizabeth Myers, Karlyn Buell and Ezekiel Corona.
A funeral service for Arietta will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at Noon from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove, Pastor of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery of Otselic.
Following the burial a reception for family and friends will be held at the South Otselic American Legion. All are welcome.
