Beverly Valentine

Beverly Valentine, 92, of Norwich passed away on October 26, 2025. She was born in Norwich to the late Clinton J. and Bertha Phoenix and grew up on many farms throughout Chenango County. She graduated from Norwich High School in 1951. Beverly was married to Alan Brown in 1953, and they raised a family together until his passing in 1988. On February 14, 2002, Beverly married Duane Valentine and they spent 10 happy years together until he passed away in 2012. Beverly was well known for her creativity, often making items for her children and grandchildren. She was especially creative with knitting, sewing and crocheting. She was also a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Norwich and in later years became a regular attender of Holmesville Baptist Church.

Beverly leaves behind her children, Jacquelyn Slagle, of Altoona, PA, Rebecca (Ronald) White, of West Chester, OH, Michael (Diann) Brown, of Norwich, Martha (Mark) Knowles, of Guilford, Joel (Christine) Brown, of Traverse City, MI, Stephen (Leslie) Brown, of Mentor On The Lake, OH, Esther Miller, Schuyler Lake, NY, Barbara (Paul) Knowles, of Guilford, and Jennifer (Greg) Von Matt, of Waterville, NY; her step-children, Gary (Sally) Valentine, Karen (Richard) Lightner, and Sharon (Timothy) Cree; 25 grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Gladys Toon; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, Beverly was predeceased by her sister, Ethel Weir; her brother, Edward Phoenix; and her sons in law, Alan Miller, and Jay Slagle.

Funeral services for Beverly will be held privately and she will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
