Courtney "Smiley" Brown died unexpectedly on December 8, 2020, and her beautiful soul is now flying with the butterflies she loved so much. While she was careful not to let too many see under her gruff exterior, those who did had the incredible opportunity of getting to know and love her. She was funny, kind, caring, grouchy, compassionate, loving, nurturing, and the list could go on and on. Her passing has left behind so much heartache for those who truly knew and loved her. She celebrated her 40th birthday less than two weeks ago, and she still had so much to give to the world.
For most of her adult life, Courtney could be found working as an LPN at one of the local nursing homes. She loved helping people and animals, and her line of work allowed her to help those who needed her the most. She gave so much of herself to her job and truly loved her residents. The shining light of her life, however, was her many nieces, nephews, and "fur babies." They brought her so much joy, as she did to them. She was always quick to offer a hug, joke, witty remark, or a listening ear to anyone in need.
Courtney is survived by her husband of 20 years, Thomas Brown. She also leaves behind her mother, Mary Brown; her father, Michael and Lois Holmes; mother-in-law, Dorothy Brown; step-mother, Janice Moore; siblings, Carrie Perry, Kelly Hunter, Michael Holmes Jr., Ryan Randall, Karen Brown, Faith Brown, Alisha Towers, and Brianna Kress; and grandparents, Arnold and Gladys Brown.
Courtney was predeceased by her father-in-law, Brian Brown; mother-in-law, Katrina Lyons; niece, Mariah Holmes; uncle, Walter Brown, and her "adopted" mother, Barbara Whaley.
Burial will take place in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne, at a later date.
