Daniel G. Spencer, 70, of McDonough, passed away on September 21, 2025 following a short illness. He was born in Waverly, NY to the late Burleigh and Helen (Hatton) Spencer. He served his country in the US Army from 1973-1977 and upon his honorable discharge, he began his career as a mechanic, first working at Raymond Corporation and later for Victory Markets before becoming self employed until his retirement. Even though Dan was retired, he never put his tools away, he was always ready to help a friend repair a car or truck. Dan also loved the woods, walking daily with his huskies, Seneca and Mya. His love of wood led to milling lumber for flooring as well as creating cabinets, tables and chairs. Dan was always dreaming of new projects.
On July 22, 1978, Dan married Pati Wright and together they had three children, Christopher (Tammy) Naylor, of Sherburne, Travis (Desiree) Spencer, of McDonough, and Lora Spencer, of Norwich; also surviving are his grandchildren, Drew and Gabby Naylor, Hannah and Logan Spencer, and Evan Chesebro; his brothers, Robert (Mary) Spencer, of Florida, David (Virginia) Spencer, of McDonough, Gary (Nancy) Spencer, of McDonough, and Larry (Patricia) Figary, of Greene; his sisters, Pamela (Terry) Bassett, of Florida, Paula (Charles) Bishop, of Plymouth, and Priscilla (Leroy) Morris, of Florida. In addition to his parents, Dan was predeceased by his brother, Jack Cowan; and his in laws, James and Crystal Wright.
A celebration of Dan’s life will take place on Sunday, October 12, at Pharsalia Hook Community Church, on the corner of State Highway 23 and Billy Brown Rd. from 2:00-4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dan’s memory may be sent to the Pharsalia Hook Community building, a project Dan took pride in helping to maintain. He was especially proud of his efforts restoring the stained glass window on the back of the building.
