David H. Hall, 90, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026. Born on October 26, 1935, in Norwich, New York, he was the son of Harold and Beatrice Hall. A lifelong resident of Norwich, David later enjoyed his retirement years in sunny Dunedin, Florida, where he spent the last decade of his life.
David dedicated much of his life to the family business, HGH Construction Company, which was founded by his grandfather, Herman Hall, in 1914. A graduate of Binghamton University with a degree in architecture, he began working alongside his father and grandfather in 1953. Over an extraordinary 61-year career, David helped shape the landscape of Chenango County, contributing to projects ranging from Colgate University to the Canasawacta Country Club and many others. He retired in 2014 as President of HGH Construction Company, leaving behind not just buildings, but a lasting legacy built on craftsmanship, integrity, and pride in his work.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, David was deeply involved in his community. He served as President of the Tri-County Building Association, was a member of the Norwich Town Board, and remained a devoted member of the United Church of Christ for 74 years. He was also an active member of the Norwich Kiwanis, Royal Arch Masons Oxford Chapter #254, Norwich Commandery No. 46 of Knights Templar, a life sponsor of The Binghamton Court of Jesters #61, and a member of the Shriners. His commitment to service and fellowship was evident in every organization he joined.
David was preceded in death by his sister Joan Phetteplace and brother in law, David Phetteplace. David was also preceded by his beloved wife, Dorothy Frink Hall, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years of marriage. He later found companionship again and was married to Rena Cobb Hall for 18 years before her passing in August, 2025.
He is survived by his brother, J. Robert Hall and his wife Patricia; his cousin, Barbara Teft; and his children: Deborah Hall; Denise Phillips and her husband Rick; Donna Murphy and her husband Michael; DeAnn Cummings and her husband Shawn; and Darren Hall. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Known for his kind and easygoing nature, David balanced professionalism with a warm and generous spirit. He loved spending time golfing and was very proud of getting a hole-in-one at a golf course in Dunedin, Florida. David loved capturing moments through photography during his travels and regularly playing cards with friends. Above all, he cherished his family. His home was a place of laughter, where the sounds of children playing and the comfort of large family gatherings created memories that will be treasured for generations. David’s life was one of quiet accomplishment, deep relationships, and enduring impact. He will be remembered not only for the structures he helped build, but for the strong foundation of love, dedication, and community he created in the lives of those around him.
