Derek J. Smith, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 18, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Winifred (Franklin) Smith. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Kim; his son, Josh and Mallory Smith; his granddaughter, Abby Smith; his brother, Matthew “Duke” and Brenda Smith; his nieces and nephews, Shannon Smith, Ashley Smith-Phillips, Rob Graves, and Kristy Gulbin; his special friends, Steve Wood, and Bob Rounds; as well as many other friends too numerous to mention.
Derek was a lifelong farmer in Pharsalia as well as a supervisor for the Department of Conservation for 35 years. He enjoyed his Tuesday night wings at the Outpost in East McDonough. His family was most important to him and he will be remembered as a loving husband to Kim and a proud dad and “Grampy”.
A celebration of Derek’s life will take place at The Outpost, 2706 NY-220, McDonough on Friday July 24 from 1:00-4:00pm
