Erin Bradley Bates

E. Bradley Bates, 85, of Sherburne and a lifelong resident of the North Norwich and Sherburne area passed away late Friday evening, July 24, 2020 at his home. Brad was born in North Norwich on March 13, 1935 the son of Jay and Gaynel (Ingham) Bates. He grew up in the North Norwich area and was a graduate of the Norwich High School. He was a longtime employee of GLA and its successor’s Simmonds Precision and Unison from which he retired. Brad was a member of the North Norwich Fire Dept. and its award winning hose team. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of several city leagues at the Norwich Bowling Center. He was a member of the Norwich American Legion, enjoyed his sports, hunting and fishing. Above all else Brad enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Brad is survived by his wife Marjorie (Jeffrey) Bates of Sherburne, children Darla (Gordon) Maynard of Smyrna, Linda (Larry) McCracken of Oklahoma, Bruce (Doreen) Bates of Smyrna, Barbara (James) Grover of East Pharsalia and Bradley C. (Lysa) Bates of Sherburne. Also surviving are his 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful feline paw companion Tyson. Brad was predeceased by his parents Jay and Gaynel, his sisters Emily Toopes, Lucille Cole, Alice Beckwith, Georgia Brown, Dora Bates, Carol Pollock, Flora Bates and his brothers Lawrence, Byron and Robert Bates. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 3-5 pm. At Brad’s request there will be no formal funeral service. Interment will be in the North Norwich Cemetery.
