Evalyn was born on May 19th, 1932, in Henderson, Colorado where she spent her early years on the Kinney family trout farm and graduated from Adams City High School. A handsome service man swept a young Evalyn off her feet; Evalyn and Edgar were married in Patterson, NJ on September 18th, 1949, and settled shortly after in Preston, NY. When they first moved into their farmhouse, it lacked windows, plumbing or electricity, but they quickly filled it with love and laughter and made it home.
Evalyn would tell you that she never worked a day in her life. However, she worked harder than anyone as the Bloods established a productive dairy farm and built a successful snowmobile dealership from the ground up. She loved her Saint Bernards, peacocks, goldfish pond, playing the marimba, hunting, working the land, and being with her family and friends. “Gram” always found time for a game of cards or a trip to the ice cream stand. She was a long-time member of the Preston Methodist Church and active in the local Mothers of Twins Club when her children were young.
Evalyn was predeceased by her husband of 71 years and beloved, Edgar; her parents Ruth and Charles Kinney; her brother William Kinney and sisters Alice Richardson and Helen Broda. Evalyn is survived by her five children: Elaine (and Timothy) McCarthy, Charles (and Mary) Blood, Brian (and Patti) Blood, Barbara (and Steve) Howard, and Barbette Blood (Tom Brightman); 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and neighbors.
A celebration of Evalyn’s life will be held during a private service at the convenience of her family; arrangements are under the direction of the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
Donations on Evalyn’s behalf can be sent to a cause of one’s own choice.
