Freda D. Hickling

Freda D. Hickling, 74, a resident of Norwich for most of her life, passed away Wednesday evening, October 14, 2020, at the Norwich Rehabilitation Center. Freda was born in Norwich on April 7, 1946 the daughter of Fred and Velma (Sayles) Grover. She grew up in the Norwich area and was a 1964 graduate of the Norwich High School. Over the years she has worked for the former Montgomery Ward Store, the Chenango County Office of the Aging and the Blue-Bird Restaurant as a waitress for 13 years. Freda might be best remembered as an Avon Representative for 18 years. She also was the editor of the Bull Thistle Bulletin News Letter for Senior Citizens. She always had a ready smile and was ready to talk with anyone. On May 12, 1989 in Oxford she married Robert E. Hickling who survives. Besides her husband Robert of Norwich, Freda is survived by her children John Wolf and fiancée Stacy of Norwich, Lisa Wolf and companion Tim Urnaitis of Oxford, David (Krissy) Wolf of Whitney Point, Christopher (Shannon) Wolf of McDonough, Donna (Paul) Farnham of East Pharsalia and Robert (Trish) Wolf of Plattsburgh, her sisters Wanda DeGear and Donna Sayles. Also surviving are her grandchildren Bryan (Melissa) Wolf, Savannah Wolf, Asia Wolf and husband Eric, Taylor Wolf, Montana and Miranda Wolf and Ukiah and Lily Farnham. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Freda was predeceased by her sister Norma Crandall and lifetime friend Josephine Harrington. At Freda’s request there will be no formal service. Please consider memorial contributions to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 33-39 Court Street, Norwich, NY 13815. Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.

My deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to her entire family. All of her children whom were her heart and soul. Her beloved husband Robert Hickling. I grieve along with you over Freda she was my Mrs. butterfly. She was my best friend ever I will miss everything about her.
Our long talks on the phone Our trips together.. I will miss so much about my beautiful friend and the laughter we shared. She was a great writer and had undying love For Jesus our Savior. I will miss you forever Mrs Butterfly-Freda Always in my heart with love Adrienne
