Genevieve married Leonard H. MacDonald and they lived and farmed on Miner Hill in South Otselic. Genevieve was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of South Otselic where she accepted the Lord at an early age and was a faithful worker, Sunday School teacher and held several positions in the church. She was a caring woman who gladly lent a hand wherever it was needed. After moving to Norwich she attended the Bible Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church.
For many years Genevieve was self-employed as a wallpaper hanger in the Otselic Valley area where there are still homes bearing the paper she hung. This, of course, in addition to working on the farm and maintaining a large vegetable and flower gardens.
She moved to DeRuyter where she lived for several years before the death of her husband, later moving to Norwich to be near her family. She cherished the friends she made there. Later Genevieve made her home with her daughter Brenda for several years. Recently she has been a resident of the UHS Chenango Senior Living Facility.
Genevieve was predeceased by her parents, her husband Leonard MacDonald, an infant son Norman MacDonald, two sons-in-law and by her siblings: Ethel Greene, Marilyn Beesmer, Earl Francis, Robert and Clifton Green. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Way and Loma Wilkins, her grandson Peter DeVinne and his wife Debbie Ullrich DeVinne and great granddaughters Kimberly and Erin DeVinne, all of Norwich. She also leaves cousins and many nieces and nephews. Her family will remember the example she set forth for us of hard work, Christian faith and character.
The family thanks the staff of UHS Senior Living for their loving caregiving to Mom while she was in your facility. We appreciate all the things you did for her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, Senior Living Activities Department, 179 No. Broad St., Norwich, NY 13815.
Due to the COVID pandemic, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A graveside service will be held in the Valley View Cemetery, South Otselic, at a later date.
Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
