

George E. Hitchcock passed away on March 16, 2024 at Wilson Hospital. George was born on January 27, 1923 to the late George W. and Minnie (Light) Hitchcock. On January 29, 1949, he married Pearl Park.
George was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, volunteering in many capacities including deacon, Sunday school teacher, AWANA, FAHOLO, lunch milk aide and electrician. He started his work career at the Norwich Knitting Mill and then worked at Bennett Ireland for many years. While working these jobs, George became a master electrician and did many jobs around the Norwich area. He also became a volunteer fireman with the Ontario Hose Company of Norwich at the age of 20 and later served as a paid fireman for the City of Norwich Fire Department.
George is survived by his daughter, Thuvia H. Stopford; his son, Edwin G. Hitchcock; as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Pearl; his daughters, Judith Fisher, and Penny Lee Hitchcock; his son in law, Jeremy Stopford; his grandchildren, Tonya Stopford; and Thomas Fisher; and his sisters, Louise and Rosalyn.
For the past eight years, George resided at Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, his family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff for the care and love shown to George.
A funeral service for George will take place at 6:00pm on Thursday, March 21, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich with Pastor Elijah Beltz officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 until the time of service. Burial will take place at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
