Bud was born in Gilbertsville on October 4, 1928, the son of Harold A. and Frances (Hopkins) Davis. He spent the early years of his life in Gilbertsville before coming to Norwich where he attended and graduated from the Norwich High School. Bud served his county in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1955. On June 14, 1958, in Norwich, he married Elizabeth Schraft.
Over the years bud worked at several area businesses including the Norwich Pennysaver, Christman Motors, and Chenango Memorial Hospital. His favorite job was the Chenango County Department of Buildings and Grounds where he was employed for 10 years before he retired.
Bud was one of a kind. He was a good father to his children and was not one to miss a football game, wrestling match, track meet, or band concert. He continued to support and be a fan of Norwich Wrestling long after his sons graduated. Bud was known for his whistling – you could always tell where he was in the County Office Building because you could hear him coming. He could mimic a trail whistle so well you would sear the O&W was back in business and he could do a Tarzan call better than Johnny Weissmuller ever could!
Bud is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Davis of Norwich, children Edward Davis of Sherburne, Kevin (Cindy) Davis of Chenango Forks, Karen (Tom) Mealey of Norwich and Michael (Penny) Davis of Baldwinsville, 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Bud was predeceased by his sisters Phyllis Cummings and Katherine MaCumber.
In keeping with Bud’s wishes there will be no formal services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Norwich.
