A son of Clyde and Mildred Pike Bush, Hayden was born in Greene in March of 1946. Though he grew up in Preston and East Pharsalia, he attended the Norwich schools. Following his school years, he worked for a time for the Norwich Knitting Mill and its successor, Champion Products, and was also employed by the Raymond Corporation of Greene as a welder. During his mother’s illness, he was her caregiver. At heart a social butterfly, Hayden belonged to a breakfast club with his friends, liked VFW bingo and the scrape off tickets at TOPS, and enjoyed the Chenango County fair. During the days that he could drive, he liked going to Vernon Downs, and also enjoyed the Kentucky Derby on the television. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, and could track the weather for a week to 10 days at a time.
Hayden is survived by his sisters and brother: Judy Hathaway of Norwich, Madelyn Magistro and husband Tony of Norwich, Charles Hathaway and wife Pat of South Otselic, and by nieces and nephews: James Jaycox and wife Linda of Norwich, Christopher Jaycox and companion Heidi of North Carolina, Erin Jaycox and companion Carrie of South Plymouth, Jeffrey Hathaway and wife Valerie of South Otselic, and Melanie Rea and husband James of Richmond, VA. Several great nieces and nephews also survive, and Hayden’s special friends, Chuch and Leanne Frayer of Norwich. Hayden was predeceased by his brother, Robert Pike.
