James William Hogan, 79, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. James was born in Norwich on April 10, 1946, to the late Barney Sr. and Ruth Hogan. He and his parents and brother Barney Jr Hogan are now joined again in the Lords hands.
James proudly served many in his days he spent on this Earth. He served our great country when called to Vietnam in December of 1966 and made it home to his family in February of 1968. During his time in Vietnam, he grew into a decorated leader with his selfless actions. He was awarded “The Bronze Star Medal” for his heroism in ground combat. Upon his return from military service, he continued serving others with this same tenacity and found home at the Norwich Fire Department for over 20 years. After retirement from the Fire Dept he worked as the General Manager at Norwich Beverage.
Once retired, Jim and his wife Donna especially found many years of joy and peace in their home at Plymouth Reservoir. His infectious laugh is still echoing across the waters. They would divide their time here with family and friends as well as in Port Charlotte, Florida. Jim’s Uncle Lynn and Aunt Mary Tanner lived here for decades before. They were very close to Jim and were great influences for him from early childhood. His willingness to help at any level continued wherever he was. He would always put himself last in the most challenging situations. He will be missed by many.
James is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Cornell Hogan; his children, Tracey Lynn and Thomas A Porack, and Thomas James and Julie P Hogan; his grandchildren, Garrett, Kevin, Allyson, Tyler and Chelsea.
Calling hours for James will take place at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich, on Saturday, August 9th, from 11:00am until 2:00pm. Family and Friends are invited to share memories or say any kind word at 2:00pm. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery following calling hours.
