
Jim was born in Norwich on May 5, 1940 the son of Clifton and Elsie (Crumb) Law and has made his home in the Sherburne and Smyrna area all of his life. He attended the Sherburne schools and was a 1958 graduate of the Sherburne High School. While in school he played for the Basketball team and was one of the team’s “stars” Over the years Jim had worked on the family farm in Sherburne-4 Corners and as an over the road trucker for over 40 years. He had worked for Dromgooles in Sherburne, Rea-D-Pack Foods in North Norwich and lastly for Newman’s.
Jim was a free spirit and over the years earned the nickname “the outlaw”. He loved his Harley motorcycle and had logged in over 100,000 miles. In addition he was an avid sportsman and enjoyed his hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, roller skating and playing horseshoes. He was also a longtime member of the Smyrna Fire Dept. He also helped to build the Sunday School rooms at the Smyrna United Methodist Church. Jim also loved to dance, especially to Polka’s.
Jim is survived by his longtime significant other Nancy Bassett of Bainbridge, children Kathi Law of Rome, Terri (Mark) Becht of Sherburne 4 and Dale Law of Cicero, his grandchildren Michael Knochenmus, Jennifer Andrews, Nichole Butler and Bradley Prosser along with great grandchildren Kaydance, Deagan, Allison and Isaac. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Clif and Elsie, daughter Vicki Prosser, grandson Bradley Prosser and brothers Wayne and Richard Law.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:00 – 1:00 pm followed by a graveside service at the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery.
