Janet graduated from high school in Edmeston, NY, as a member of the Class of 1951. Throughout her working life, she was known for steady dedication and dependable service—first as a bank teller with Edmeston Bank in Edmeston, NY, and later as a bus driver for the Oxford School District.
On June 5th, 1980, Janet married her husband, Hillis Crandall, in Florida. Together, they lived and worked their farm for many years, building a life shaped by hard work, devotion, and the enduring comfort of shared purpose.
Janet found genuine joy in the simple, meaningful pleasures of life. She loved horses and all farm animals, took pride in gardening, and enjoyed puzzles and reading. She also loved music—especially classic country—and her favorite color was purple. These interests reflected a life grounded in warmth, constancy, and the kind of everyday joys that become lasting memories for family and friends.
Above all else, Janet loved her family dearly; they were everything to her. She will be remembered as deeply cherished and beloved, and for the steady loyalty and care she gave to those fortunate enough to know her.
Janet was predeceased by her husband, Hillis Crandall, and her granddaughter, Brittany Carnrike. She is survived by her children, Denise Nower, Analisa Angle, Rob Carnrike, and Dale Carnrike; her grandchildren, Janelle Burchill (Nate), Andrew Carnrike, Danielle Harris (James), Joe Shapiro, and Lisa Shapiro; and many beloved great grandchildren, nieces and friends.
Janet's family would like to extend the most heartfelt thank you to the NYS Veterans home of Oxford NY for the love and compassionate care they provided both Janet and her late husband Hillis.
A Graveside Service will be held at Hillington Cemetery, 1895 State Highway 23, Morris, NY 13808, on June 5, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
