Jimmy was born in Syracuse, NY, to the late Marine Veteran Eugene J. Allen and Geraldine (Gleason) Allen. He was predeceased by his Uncle James Gleason, of Dewitt, NY, his brother, Edward E. Allen of Syracuse, NY, and his very close friend, Paul W. Carson of Norwich, NY.
Jimmy grew up as one of three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his sisters Beverly (Allen) Marshall and her partner Jerry Peptis, Joanne (Allen) Morgan and her husband David Morgan Sr., Georgana (Allen) Peptis and her husband Jim Peptis, Deborah (Allen) Parkhurst, and his brother Scott Allen and wife Sadie (White) Allen, along with many beloved nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Jimmy was loved by everyone who met him, and he returned that love wholeheartedly. His humor, kindness, and caring nature made him truly one of a kind. He made many lifelong friends while helping his parents at the family business, the Otselic Valley Inn (OVI) in South Otselic, NY. Jimmy took great pride in assisting his father, Gene (“Geno”), with maintaining the weekly alcohol orders at the inn.
In the 1980s, Jimmy began working at CWS in Norwich, NY, where he remained until his retirement. His job gave him the independence he valued so much and allowed him to build many cherished friendships throughout the Norwich community. No matter where he went, Jimmy was sure to run into someone he knew.
Jimmy was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan and proudly wore his favorite teams’ apparel wherever he traveled. Over the years, he enjoyed many wonderful trips and cruises. He was also the mascot for the Georgetown, NY Sportsman Lodge softball team for 15 years, traveling alongside them, cheering them on.
Jimmy always treasured holidays, birthdays, and family milestones filled with laughter, good food, and togetherness — always with a Pepsi close at hand. Like his parents, he had a special gift for making every celebration feel warm, joyful, and full of love.
To his family and close friends, he was simply “Jimbo.”
Jimbo was a huge and cherished part of our family and will be forever missed. He was a beautiful, kind, and loving soul.
May you rest in peace.
“Love you honey.”
