Joan E. (Hall) Phetteplace, 88, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2019. She was born in Norwich on June22, 1931 to the late Harold and Bea Hall. In 1952, Joan married David Phetteplace and they enjoyed 64 years together until his passing in 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Belinda (Bindy) and Bob Reid, her sons, Brian and Nancy Phetteplace, and Dean and Judy Phetteplace; her grandchildren, Sandy Reid and Brian Plank, Stacey Reid, Anson and Alena Phetteplace, Briegen Phetteplace and John Letko, Alex and Morgan Phetteplace, and Drew Phetteplace; her great-grandchildren, Noah and Kara; her brothers, J. Robert and Patricia Hall, and David Hall; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joan will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved living in the home built by her late husband and was a partner of HGH Construction where she meticulously took care of the accounts making sure the books balanced to the penny, even if it took all day. She was a member of UCC Church in Norwich as well as Wednesday Evening Homemakers, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Norwich where she served as Past Matron. Joan also enjoyed traveling, camping, playing Pitch, Syracuse football and basketball, or the Mets. Her TV always was tuned in to a ball game, even reruns of recent games. She was also an avid fan of Judge Judy. In October of 2016, Joan moved to Brighton Gardens in Greensboro, NC to be close to her family. She enjoyed making many new friends there and sharing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren during their visits. Joan will also be remembered for being straightforward and speaking her mind, you never had to wonder what she was thinking.
A graveside service for Joan will take place in the spring at Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association at www.donatenow.heart.org or to the American Kidney Fund at www.kidneyfund.org or to the charity of one’s choice.
