John H. Blenis, Jr., a very much loved husband, father, grandfather and son, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday July 1st at the age of 56. John was born in Norwich and grew up here, graduating from Norwich High School. He then went on to MVCC and earned a degree in graphic design. Upon college graduation, John returned to Norwich and married the love of his life, Theresa. John worked in graphic design for both Victory Markets and DCMO BOCES before founding his own screen printing business, Fineline Graphics. John quickly became Norwich’s beloved screen printer, serving his community and donating countless hours and goods to organizations in this area. He later started his Etsy online business, where he sold his unique and creative designs to customers around the world. John gave to the community in many ways, including 15 years served on the Chenango Blues Fest Board, 12 years as a Civil Service Commissioner and serving on the Colorscape Board. He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Parish for over 30 years and was always willing to contribute to school functions and other community events. In addition to his community involvement, John loved taking vacations near the ocean, listening to music, especially The Grateful Dead, his dogs, Lucy and Eddie, and his family most importantly. John was predeceased by his father, John H. Blenis, Sr., his brother, James Patrick Blenis, and his mother and father in law, Rose and Donald Coleman. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Theresa; his daughters, Jessica (Erin) Shapley-Blenis, Shannon (Steve) Koehnken, and Gabrielle (Dan O’Reilly) Blenis; his grandson, Finn Shapley-Blenis; his mother, Charlotte Blenis; his sister, Lee (Mike) Tucker; and his brothers in law, Stephen Coleman, and Mark (Patricia) Coleman. A Catholic mass for John will be offered at 10:00 am on Monday, July 8, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 74 E. Main St. Norwich with Fr. Ralph A. Bove officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich. From 1 Peter 4:10: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received, to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

Johnny definitely used the gifts God gave him to serve others. The unique smile that was his alone, and his gentle soul touched anybody he came into contact with. And there were a lot of folks. The most powerful evidence though: Theresa, Jessica, Shannon, and Gabrielle. What greater legacy could a person have?

I had John, Teresa and his girls as students and later as friends. I will always remember John as the man with the stunning smile. He could turn a problematic shirt order into a humorous decision. I never left his store without a smile and gratitude in my heart. I visited with him at concerts many times and one in particular stands out for me. I had just placed a memorial for my daughter and was fighting a meltdown, when I literally walked into him where he had his shirts on sale. He must have known that I was hurting, because he opened his arms and gave me a big hug and of course, a smile. Thank you John for all of the smiles. You have made a difference.

John was my stylist. And by that I mean my wardrobe consisted of all John's t-shirts. We met at Delfest years back. He welcomed my family and I as if we were his own. There were many times throughout the festival me, my kids, or wife would just be chilling at his booth. We discussed all kinds of things such as kids, grandkids, music, as well as day to day issues. He was an amazing man. Very sweet, kind, and gentle. He truly cared for others more then himself. There are no words that can describe what a loss the world is going through. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends. You will be missed my brother. You know our love will not fade away. "May the four winds blow you safely home"💟💗💜❤

John is one the kindest, gentlest, most positive souls I have ever been lucky enough to be close to. Theresa and the girls all share that warmth and beauty as well. Your presence will be sorely missed friend, but rest now, may the four winds blow you safely home, brother.

That picture is exactly how I will always remember John. Whenever you saw him you felt better about yourself because his positive attitude and mild demeanor had a way of brightening anyone's day. Rest well, my friend, until we meet again.
