John R. O'Dell
October 8, 1955 – January 3, 2019
John R. O’Dell, 63, of Norwich passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the Chenango Memorial Hospital. John was born on October 8, 1955 in Sidney the son of Harley and Thelma O’Dell Sr. He grew up in the Richmondville area where he attended and graduated from the RIchmondville School. In the late 1970’s John entered the United States Navy serving his country until his honorable discharge. He was extremely proud to have served his country and throughout his adult life he was proud to be an American and remained very patriotic. Returning home he settled in the Ellenville and Middletown areas where he worked construction. Following the death of the love of his life, Christina, he moved to Norwich in 2013. While making his home in Norwich, John worked as the Asst. Grocery Manager at Tops Market. John was loved by everyone and was a very happy individual. He was always laughing, teasing and joking with anyone he met. Cooking was an inborn trait of John’s. He loved to cook and bake for his family and friends which was always “over the top.” His specialties were many and enjoyed by all. John is survived by his siblings; Delores O’Dell of Norwich, Brenda O’Dell of Rochester, Harley O’Dell of Schoharie, Kathleen (Rob) Scruggs of Brooksville, FL, Deborah (David) Aidone of Cobleskill, Connie Kern of Howes Cave, NY, Diane Kouzan (Alan Mettler) of Plymouth, Alonzo (Violet) O’Dell of Warnerville, Douglas O’Dell Rocke (Karen) of Altamonte Springs, FL and Donna (Jerry Dean) Llewellyn of Cocoa, FL, 2 step-daughters Heather (Shane) Padua of Napanoch, NY and Kimberly (Dan) Conklin of Beach Lake, PA. Also surviving are several dearly loved nieces and nephews along with 6 step-grandchildren. John was predeceased by the love of his life Christina O’Dell and his parents Harley and Thelma O’Dell Sr. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Monday, January 14, from 1-3 pm. Immediately following the calling hours family and friends are invited to gather at the Plymouth Firehouse for a time of fellowship and remembrances of John’s life.
