September 13, 1931January 30, 2020

Joyce Marie Nial (née VanBoven) was born September 13,1931 in Stiles, WI. She was the eldest of three children. She was predeceased by her parents Orville and Josephine VanBoven. She moved to Norwich over 60 years ago but fondly remembered her home town of Oconto Falls, WI. Joyce graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1950. After moving around, she settled in Norwich, NY. She met her husband of over 50 years, John E. Nial Jr., during a dance at Hand’s Inn. John predeceased Joyce on November 29, 2015. Joyce is remembered for her friendly and tireless work at the Bluebird Restaurant for over 42 years before her retirement. She always had a smile on her face and her time there was legendary. Joyce enjoyed antiques and was frequently seen at markets and yard sales. She was always involved in the local community including delivering Meals on Wheels with John for many years. She loved animals and frequently supported their cause. One of their most loyal companions was their dog, Duke, adopted from the SPCA. Joyce loved gardening and the front of her house always displayed her hard work. Joyce enjoyed spending winters in Texas with family. She loved her 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She adored them and proudly displayed their many many photographs in her home. Arrangements were made by RJ Fahy Funeral Home and it was Joyce’s wish to have no calling hours. Close family gathered for a private remembrance. Joyce is survived by her brother Raymond VanBoven of South Carolina and her sister Jane VanBoven of Missouri, her children Susan Gracin-Sperry of Norwich, NY, Cindy Burns of Hurst, TX, Kelly Jo Nial (Terrell) of Fort Worth, TX, Kevin(Frances) Nial of Norwich, NY, and step children Shara Dawson of Missouri, Shawna Beale of Florida, and John Nial III of Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chenango County SPCA 6160 CR 32 Norwich, NY or Hospice Care of Norwich 21 Hayes St Norwich, NY.
