June Mildred Berry, loving wife, mother and longtime resident of Norwich, NY, passed away of natural causes, at the golden age of 95, on June 4, 2025. June was born July 22, 1929, and raised in Norwich. Throughout her adult life she resided with her husband and family in the towns of Sherburne, Clinton, and Hamilton, NY. In 1981, she and her husband Carl returned to their beloved childhood town of Norwich, where they built their final residence. June lived a fulfilled and many splendored life. Though her best and most favored role was mother and homemaker, June was also known for her creative talents. While filling her home with ornamental crafts, afghans crocheted/knitted, clothing sewed, and ceramics, June was also an avid gardener, who loved nature and wildlife. After raising her children, June was employed as a part-time sales associate at Skillin’s Jewelry Store and Hirsch’s Dress Shop in Norwich. Friends will remember June best for her involvement in social and community affairs such as her interest and volunteer time spent in civic activities, with her favorites encompassing her ever-readiness to volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the Methodist Church, where she served a Sunday School Teacher, Girl Scout Leader, the Sherburne Library and other meaningful committees and endeavors for outreach. Her helpful presence each year at the opening gates of the Chenango County Fair will be remembered by many in the community.
June married her beloved husband and soulmate, World War II veteran, Carl L. Berry, on February 22, 1947 and they celebrated 64 years of married bliss until Carl’s passing in 2013. The two were met with tragedy when their first child, Karen Ann was killed in a motor vehicle accident in 1957. Despite this tragic loss, June and Carl moved forward with God’s grace and faith, building a rich life together. In her older years, those who knew her best could find her at the home she and Carl built in 1981, and despite her age, June was able to sustain a happy lifestyle living independently and thriving there until her final days.
June will be missed most by her three surviving children, Patricia Baszczuk, PhD., of Freehold, NJ, David Berry and wife Jane, of Alpena MI., Craig Berry and wife Rebecca, of Norwich, NY; her grandchildren, Geoffrey Baszczuk and wife Camila, of Frankfurt, DE, Daniel Berry, PhD, wife Beth, PhD, and daughter Eleonora, of Ithaca, NY, Erika Berry, of Buffalo, NY, Reese Berry, of Norwich, NY; and her sister, Judy Montgomery, of Florida.
