Kathryn M. Dieck

Kathy was born in Brooklyn on August 14, 1940 the daughter of Leon and Victoria (Sampson) Kaczorowski. She grew up in the Brooklyn and Glendale area and was a graduate of the Bushwick High School. On May 27, 1961 she married Richard Dieck. While living downstate, Kathy worked for the Kresge Dept. Store in the payroll department where she operated a comptometer, which was pre-computer era. In 1970, Kathy and her husband moved to North Norwich where they continued to make their home.

Kathy quickly adjusted to living in North Norwich and was very active in the community, especially the North Norwich Fire Dept. For more than 40 years, she was the Secretary/Treasurer for the Fire District Commissioners. Her accounting knowledge and determination helped make the Fire Dept. what it is today. Kathy was instrumental in securing the needed funds for the current fire house, as well as preparing, in advance, when a new fire truck needed to be purchased. She, along with Dick McNulty, was instrumental in the development of the park behind the No. Norwich Town Hall.

She and her husband owned, cared for, raised, bred and raced many horses throughout the years. It goes without saying she was the bookkeeper for this business, too. Kathy also enjoyed her home. She enjoyed baking, spending time in her garden and needlework. She also had a passion for her orchids.

Her presence in the community will be greatly missed.

Aside from her dedication to her community and horses, Kathy was also a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Kathy is survived by her husband Richard of No. Norwich, sons Craig (Sara) Dieck of Norwich, Brian (Tricia) Dieck of Batavia, and grandchildren Sarah and Cameron. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Kathy was predeceased by her sister Jeanette Hagel and brother George Kaczorowski.

Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday JANUARY 31 from 4-7 pm.

The North Norwich Fire Dept. will call in a group at the funeral home at 6 pm Thursday evening.

A Memorial Service for Kathy will be held in May at a time and place to be determined.
