Marie E Christian, 16 Olde Gate Court, Pooler,Ga passed away after a short illness on Sunday July 31st. She was born in Norwich on May 1, 1937 to John and Josephine (Natoli) Ehst and graduated from Norwich High School in 1955. During her life, she worked in many different offices in the Chenango County office building, worked with her husband Linn in his contracting business and retired as the Deputy Town Clerk of Oxford. On October 4, 1958 she married John R. Diefenbacher. He passed away on December 7, 1978. She then married Linn T. Christian on May 31st 1980, who passed away on December 22, 2018. Marie and Linn enjoyed many traveling adventures. Marie was always game to travel and try new adventures. Ready to go at a moment’s notice. Surviving are a daughter Jean Branham and husband Doug, step-sons Scott Christian and wife April and Mark Christian and wife Rhonda. No one was a more consummate grandmother and she is survived by the following grandchildren, Ashley and husband Derek Wilson, Mallory and Kristie Leigh Branham, Chris Christian and wife Carrie, Courtney Emerson and husband Nat, Curtis Christian and wife Jillian, Matt Acenowr and wife Janelle, Peter Austin and wife Randi, Carly Christian, Michaela Sharak, and Meghan Ando and husband Sam; as well as 20 great-grandchildren. A son John R. Diefenbacher, Jr. died in 1966. Many happy days were spent watching school programs, sports, music and dance recitals of both grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While all of her great-grandchildren were special to her, she really enjoyed watching the first 3 and a half years of her great grandson Everett Wilsons life. She saw the majority of all his milestones. A hole has opened up in our hearts and an empty seat at our dining room table but we have many years of happy memories to fall back on.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, 3 Scott St. Oxford on Monday, August 22, at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich. Burial will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
