Martin James (Jimmy) Davern, 85, of South Plymouth, NY passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2019, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital. Jimmy was born on June 19, 1934 in Norwich the son of John and Gladys (Dixon) Davern. He grew up in the Norwich area where he attended the Norwich schools. Jimmy served his country in the United States Army serving in Panama from March of 1954 until his honorable discharge in February of 1956. On July 16, 1960 in East Guilford he married Mary Jean Barrows who passed away December 10, 2010. Jimmy spent his entire life in the Norwich and New Berlin areas where he lived on his farm for over 27 years raising heifers and horses for which he had a great passion. Over the years he had worked for Cossitt Motor Express, Craine Silo and Victory Markets where he drove truck and worked in the garage. Jimmy is survived by his nieces and nephews; Maureen Nevins of Newcomb, MD, Marilyn (Robert) Neuland of Norwich, Orrest (Rosemary) Karlson of Norwich, Jeff (Linda) Gibbon of Norwich, Michael (Kathy) Gibbon of Norwich, Stephen (Michelle) Davern of Lavellette, NJ, Kathy Biviano of Bossier City, LA and Kim (Richard) Bolyard of Louisville. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Jean Davern of Norwich and step-daughter Cathy Rivenburg. Besides his wife Mary, Jimmy was predeceased by his siblings Anna Eldridge, Ida Karlson, Betty Gibbon, John Davern, Richard Davern and Thomas Davern, nephew Joel Gibbon, nephew-in-laws John Nevins and Tom Biviano. A funeral service for Jimmy will be held on Saturday, October 5, at 11:00 am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Norwich Quarter Cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 10- 11 am
