Merie G. Kenyon

Merie G. Kenyon, 98, of McDonough, passed away at her home on April 5, 2023. She was born on December 10, 1924 to the late Ernest and Gertrude (Owens) Beckwith. Merie spent her youth in McDonough and graduated from Oxford schools. She then spent some time as a clerical worker in Greene, NY until her marriage to Edward H. Kenyon on January 17, 1948 in Halstead, PA.

For the next 35 years she worked as a homemaker raising four sons in Cortland, NY and then moving to Holley, NY. Upon her return to McDonough, she worked for Chenango County Area Agency on Aging before her retirement. All through her life, Merie was devoted to her family, cooking excellent meals for them, playing cards and always having a huge tray of candy close at hand. She will also be remembered as an avid reader.

Merie is survived by her four sons and two daughters-in-law, Nelson Kenyon, of Bay Point CA; Dale and Laurie Kenyon, of McDonough NY; Kim and Jane Kenyon, of McDonough NY; and Scott Kenyon, of Waikoloa HI; her six grandchildren, Nelson Jr. and Lisa Kenyon, of Churchville NY; Darcy and Adam Lee, of Albany NY; Ashleigh Kenyon, of Portland OR; Jessica Kenyon, of Cortland NY; Alexandria Kenyon, of San Mateo CA; and Zakery Kenyon, of Bay Point CA; 10 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Einion Beckwith, of Crowley TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Merie was predeceased by her husband, Edward H. Kenyon; her twin brother, Merwin Beckwith; and her great great grandson, Jaxson Kenyon.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Merie’s memory may be made to the McDonough Emergency Squad or Fire Dept. 1625 St. Hwy. 220, McDonough, NY 13801
