Nick was born on January 2, 1959 in Norwich, NY. He was kind, loving, generous, and a very hard- working man.
Nick drove milk truck for over 30 years and had many other abilities that he used over the years to support his family. He cut and sold firewood, cut and skid trees for logs, worked on farms, grew and sold corn, harvested crops, tapped trees and made maple syrup, fabricated tools, welded many projects, sawed out lumber, mowed lawns, and ground stumps. He worked for many years building houses and doing mechanic work on farm implements and tractors. He was a jack of all trades and master of ALL.
Nick loved to chat…about the lumber industry, truck driving, farming, crop work, farm equipment, old trucks, dairy industry, his family and his dog. He has held many discussions at the kitchen table, in the driveway, at the hardware store, and almost anywhere. He had long discussions with friends, but also with anyone who had a shared interest.
Nick and his father started a family tradition of stopping into diners across NY and MA. There were very few he had not visited, often with a family member or friend.
Nick would go out of his way to speak with someone he thought was struggling in their marriage. Looking back, he could see times when he could have used a heart-to-heart talk and he wanted to be sure to reach out when he could.
Nick was married to Karen (Davis) McKie in 1979, separated and then divorced in 1987. After many twists and turns, and lots of learning, the couple reconciled and re-married on October 5, 1996. They celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary this past October. They were devoted to and truly loved each other. They shared two children and six grandsons. Nick’s greatest treasure was his family. He always made time for his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Karen (Davis) McKie, South New Berlin, NY; his children, Michael (Angela Rickard) McKie, Sherburne, NY and Michelle (Steven Hoke) McKie, West Winfield, NY; and his grandsons, Nathan McKie, AJ (Anthony) McKie, Tyler Thompson, Kamron McKie, Chase Hoke, and Zane McKie.
He is also survived by his mother, Mildred McKie, South New Berlin, NY; his sisters, Barbara Threet, Plainfield, MA, Karen (Don) Foley, Norwich, NY, and Clara (John) Sharp, Lincolnton, NC; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Kim (Steven) Voorhis, South New Berlin, NY, Scott (Lisa) Davis, Lancaster, PA, Julie (Don) Hunt, South New Berlin, NY, and Brent (Dawn) Davis, Sevierville, TN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
